From August 15 - December 15, 2010, I will be working as an architecture intern with Engineering Ministries International in Colorado Springs, CO. I will be helping to design a girls orphanage in Sudan, so I have the great opportunity to travel to Juba, Sudan for a couple weeks to work on the project there too! I'm so excited for this big adventure that God has me on for these next few months and I've created this blog to share that excitement with you! Thanks so much for visiting, your encouragement and support is always appreciated!

Internship with Engineering Ministries International (eMI)

So...What's Next??

Earlier this year I was considering going to grad school right after finishing my undergraduate studies, but I still wasn’t sure if I wanted to pursue architecture or a different design path. After a lot of time in prayer, as well as talking to mentors and professors, it was clear to me that God wanted me to hold off a year on graduate school.

Many of you know that in college I was strongly involved in Campus Crusade for Christ through bible studies and missions trips, and it’s been through this experience that God’s given me a heart to glorify Him through a career in design. However, as I started my job search my hopes of getting a design job that connected the highly competitive (and often corporate and elite) design world with humbly serving “the least of [our] brothers” (Matt. 25:40) seemed like an impossible dream. On top of that, architecture jobs are incredibly scarce right now, so I’d be lucky if I got an architecture internship at all. But, by God’s supreme grace and perfect plan, He led me to a group called Engineering Ministries International (EMI) that offers short-term architecture and engineering internships for recent college graduates!

“Design + Missions = eMi”

I can’t express how excited I am to share with you that I get to do missions while having an architecture internship with EMI in the fall! EMI is a non-profit Christian development organization made up of architects, engineers and design professionals who donate their skills to help children and families around the world step out of poverty and into a world of hope. They have worked on over 800 projects in more than 85 countries, designing facilities such as hospitals, orphanages, churches, schools, and water systems. EMI has offices all around the world, but I will be interning at their world headquarters in Colorado Springs, CO. As an intern, I will assist professionally licensed architects in their design process, and I will get to travel (2 weeks to a developing country to begin the design process for a new project!

I’m sharing all of this with you because I need your help to make this great opportunity possible. First and foremost, I need your prayers through this entire experience. Prayer is powerful and effective, and it’s what brought me to this opportunity in the first place! Please pray that God would prepare me for four months of working hard while humbly serving God and His children. Pray that through this experience I would gain more clarity as to where God is leading me in my future career in architecture. Pray for our team of 10 interns to work together well, as well as safe travel and living in Colorado and beyond. And finally, please pray that God would provide the funds for me to be able to serve with EMI in the fall.

Because EMI is a non-profit organization and this internship is not paid, I need to raise approximately $5,600 to cover my living, travel, and work expenses for the internship. When I raised funds for my missions trip to France a couple years ago, I was so encouraged by the generosity of people like you supporting me in prayer, encouragement, and financially. I’m inviting you to prayerfully consider becoming a partner with me in this internship by supporting me through prayer, encouragement, and financially if you feel led.

Click here if you would like to donate electronically (under "Designation" put Claire Antelman #2824) or email me so I can send you more information about my internship!

I will post regularly on this blog to keep you updated!

Thanks so much!

But, I think the next phase of my life will bring even more great experiences my way, so here I go!
